A king penguin residing at the Edinburgh Zoo named Nils Olav is the official mascot and colonel-in-chief of the Norwegian King's Guard. Currency
The national currency of Norway is the Norwegian krone, which uses the ISO code NOK. It was officially introduced in 1875 when Norway joined the Scandinavian Monetary Union, replacing the previous speciedaler. While the union dissolved after World War I, Norway decided to keep the name 'krone', which translates to 'crown' in English.
Flag symbolism
